Marie Healy

The Transformative Power of Acupuncture

As a licensed and experienced Acupuncturist, Marie Healy specializes in restoring balance and promoting healing through the ancient practice of acupuncture. Rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine, acupuncture is a safe, natural, and holistic approach that works with the body’s energy systems to support physical, emotional, and mental well-being. By gently stimulating specific points on the body, acupuncture helps activate the body’s innate ability to heal and regulate itself.
Clients often seek acupuncture for:

  • Stress reduction and emotional balance
  • Anxiety and nervous system support
  • Pain management and chronic conditions
  • Hormonal balance and digestive health
  • Sleep improvement and deep relaxation
  • Immune system support
  • Overall wellness and preventative care

Each session is thoughtfully tailored to your unique needs and goals, addressing both the root cause and the symptoms of imbalance. Through consistent care, acupuncture can help you experience greater harmony, renewed energy, and a deeper sense of well-being—supporting long-lasting transformation from the inside out.

Hypnotherapy and acupuncture are at the heart of what makes Marie Healy unique. Together, they create a powerful synergy—addressing both the emotional and physical dimensions of health for lasting, transformative results.

Whether you’re seeking relief from pain, emotional release, or simply a greater sense of inner balance, our integrated approach offers a path to wellness that is both grounded and deeply restorative.

Extremely fine, hair-thin flexible needles are placed at specific points on the energetic pathways, known as meridians. When the needles are inserted you may experience a sensation of tingling or warmth. People are surprised to find treatments quite relaxing. The length and frequency of a treatment may vary for each individual and will be determined by your practitioner. Acupuncture treatments are scheduled according to the nature of your condition. As you improve, fewer visits are required. Discuss your treatment plan with your practitioner, since each individual is different.

The regulation of acupuncture and Oriental Medicine varies from state to state. The NCCAOM (National Commission for the Certification of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine) has established standards to practice acupuncture and herbs safely and effectively. Many states use the NCCAOM’s examination to meet licensing / registration requirements, while a few other states, such as California, have developed their own examination process.

Acupuncture and Chinese Herbology are safe medical procedures and are well known for their efficacy and lack of side effects when administered by a qualified practitioner. Your practitioner uses pre-sterilized, disposable needles while administering an acupuncture treatment. All practitioners certified by the NCCAOM comply with strict regulations for proper needle sterilization.
Two popular forms of taking Chinese herbs are extract powders or granules which are taken in hot water 2-3 times a day and smooth, easy to swallow tablets or capsules. The extracts are made by producing a large batch of tea and then removing the water and producing a powder or tiny pellets. Tablets and capsules contain either powdered herbs or dried extracts or a combination of the two. The dosage for herbs vary and will be prescribed by your practitioner.

Herb materials used in all these preparations are gathered from wild supplies or cultivated, usually in China (some come from India, the Mid-East, or elsewhere). There are estimated 6,000 species in use, including nearly 1,000 materials derived from animal sources and over 100 minerals. Herbs are processed in various ways, such as cleaning, soaking, slicing, and drying, according to the methods that have been reported to be most useful. These materials are then combined in a formulation; the ingredients and amounts of each item depend on the nature of the condition to be treated.

Chinese herb manufacturing facilities are monitored for cleanliness by the FDA in the U.S., and for imported items, the FDA moniters the listed ingredients to help ensure no toxic herbs are being used. Random testing of crude herb materials and herb products made in the U.S. indicate that they are free of harmful bacteria and chemical contaminants.

The main reason that more Westeners are turning to Chinese herbs rather than local herbs is because of the vast scope of experience in using the Chinese materials. In every province in China, there are large schools of traditional Chinese medicine, research institutes, and teaching hospitals, where thousands of practioners each year gain training in the use of herbs. The written heritage of Chinese medicine is quite rich. Ancient books are retained, with increasing number of commentaries. New books are written by practitioners who have several decades of personal experience or by compilers who scan the vast diverse modern literature and arrange the results of clinical trials into categories.

Women who are pregnant should take Chinese herbal products under the careful supervision of an experienced and knowledgeable Chinese medicine practitioner.

Today the benefits of massage are far reaching. As an accepted part of many physical rehabilitation programs, massage therapy has also proven beneficial for many chronic conditions, including low back pain, arthritis, bursitis, fatigue, high blood pressure, diabetes, immunity suppression, infertility, smoking cessation, depression, and more. And as many will attest, massage also helps relieve the stress and tension of everyday living that can lead to disease and illness.

There are more than 250 variations of massage, bodywork and somatic therapies. Many practioners utilize mulitiple techniques. The application of these techniques may include kneading, tapping, stroking, compression, vibration, rocking, pressure, friction to the muscular structure or soft tissue of the human body. This may include non-forceful passive or active movement and/or application of techniques intended to effect the energetic system of the body. The use of oil or lotions may be included to reduce the friction on the skin.

Make yourself comfortable. The practitioner will either gently move you or tell you what is needed throughout the session (such as lifting your arm). Many people just close their eyes and completely relax. Others like to talk during their session. Feel free to ask the practitioner questions about massage and bodywork in general or about the particular technique you are receiving.

Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience freedom from long-term aches and pains developed from tension or repetitive activity. After an initial period of feeling slowed down, people often experience increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity which can last for days. Since toxins are released from your soft tissues during a massage, it is recommended you drink plenty of water following your massage.

Yes. That’s why it’s imperative that, before you begin your session, the practitioner asks general health questions. It is very important that you inform the practitioner of any health problems or medications you are taking. If you are under a doctor’s care, it is strongly advised that you receive a written recommendation for massage or bodywork prior to any session. Your practitioner may require a recommendation or approval from your doctor.

Craniosacral therapy is performed on a patient fully clothed. The practitioner uses light touch to monitor the rhythm of the craniosacral system to detect potential restrictions and imbalances. The practitioner then uses delicate manual techniques to release these restrictions and relieve undue pressure on the brain and spinal cord. A session of craniosacral therapy can last from 15 minutes to more than an hour. It can be performed alone or in conjunction with other therapies. The result is a central nervous system free of restriction and a body that is able to return to a greater level of performance.

Reiki is a powerful alternative healing method which can easily be combined with other healing techniques. In fact it enhances medical treatments and procedures. A Reiki treatment provides additional energy to all of the body’s systems (glands, organs, blood supply, lymphatic system, etc.); in the process, the client’s total body receives energy toward normalizing its processes. It helps assist the body to maintain homeostasis, resulting in deep relaxation, and a feeling of well being, and a shift toward physical health. The effect of the treatment continues to manifest for a period of approximately 21 days. Possibly this what allows the healing to take place so gently.
